Editor’s Note: As a baseball parent, I’m always looking for new ways to improve my son’s training. We recently discovered WIN Reality and have been seeing incredible results in only a few months.
Here’s What Baseball Training Looked Like Before Using WIN Reality:
If your kid plays baseball, you’re probably all too familiar with the hassle of going to batting cages. Finding an available time slot, commuting back and forth, and sitting next to noisy cages — it’s a literal headache. But most importantly, I didn’t know whether my 13-year-old son, Jason, was actually learning specific skills or just swinging for the fences.
Due to the time commitment, I could only take him once a week — usually on weekends when they’re super busy. Struggling to yell advice between swings isn’t exactly my preferred method of training.
Although hitting balls is still a tried-and-true form of practice, I was worried that only going once a week (if we’re lucky) wasn’t enough. Plus, the repetitive pitches coming from the machine don’t simulate the varied throws of an actual pitcher.
I knew there had to be a better way to get Jason more quality practice time without me becoming a full-time chauffeur.
Here’s What Baseball Training Looked Like After Using WIN Reality:
After researching alternative ways to effectively practice baseball, one training tool kept popping up — WIN Reality.
WIN Reality is a virtual reality baseball training tool that allows athletes to hit unlimited pitches anytime and anywhere. To be honest, I was skeptical whether virtual reality could actually help Jason improve. But after a few months of using the app — I can attest that VR training leads to real-life results.
With a Meta Quest 2 and bat attachment, Jason can practice realistic pitches every night. There are over 600 virtual pitchers to choose from that can throw anything from Little-League level pitches up to 100mph fastballs — and everything in between. (To be honest, I had to try the 100mph pitches myself when we first got it).
We love using the Live Pitch mobile app, which lets me choose the speed, placement, and curve of the pitches that Jason receives. This really helps with pitch recognition and hitting under pressure.
With the Pitch Simulator, Jason practices distinct skills like release point, plate discipline, and swing timing. Exhibition Mode is another feature that replicates the thrilling environment of a real game with a field of players and a stadium of fans. And his favorite mode is Team Training, which involves playing with peers in live hitting competitions and gets the adrenaline pumping.
As a part of the Pro Plan, Jason gets access to small group sessions with college/professional athletes. Thanks to the VR technology, these sessions focus on unique skills and involve real-time adjustments and feedback.
The coaches also conduct a comprehensive 3D Swing Analysis that offers precise grading on 12 different aspects of the swing. This helps Jason accurately visualize areas to improve on like stride length, upper torso load, and pelvis direction at contact. Although the lessons are only 30-40 minutes, Jason walks away with personalized drills to work on throughout the week during his at-home practice.
Final Thoughts:
WIN Reality has been a total gamechanger for Jason as he’s now hitting exponentially more pitches per week and consistently improving his skills.
This doesn’t mean we stopped going to the cages altogether — it’s still important to hit real balls. But now when we do go to the batting cage, Jason knows exactly what to work on and his swings are far more consistent.
Not only has WIN Reality has totally taken the pressure off me to constantly drive to the cages, it’s completely transformed Jason as a baseball player.
We can’t wait for the 2024 season when Jason can show off everything he’s been practicing with WIN Reality!
