Party Nails recently dropped her debut album Past Lives and Paychecks.
The 12-track album explores themes of power, love, money heartbreak, and loss. “As a singer, I really wanted to push myself to the edge of my sanity with each vocal take. Ultimately my goal was to create an album of memorable songs that land across the spectrum of alternative pop,” says Party Nails.
With a sound amalgamating pop, alternative, and electronic, along with a thumbs up to aromas of punk, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Party Nails has collaborated with Getter and MitiS, along with sharing the stage with PVRIS, Lights, and PRXZM. Currently touring with Bad Bad Hats, Party Nails will finish the year performing with Eve 6 on their 20th anniversary tour.
The best tracks on the album include “Paycheck,” a vibrant electro-pop tune rife with emerging synths and a potent bass line riding a dance-flavored groove. Party Nails’ voice, sensuous and lush with cool timbres, asserts its vitality and magnetic sway with hypnotic power. “Never Look Again” surges with Donna Summer-like dance impetus, as sparkling colors travel on a pulsating rhythm. Flavored with new wave filaments, the upbeat harmonics thrum with dynamism.
“Musician” exudes dark, seductive momentum on a delicious electro-pop tune with an R&B resonance. This might be my favorite song on the album because of its infectious coloration and Party Nails’ superlative delivery.
The muscular bass line and gleaming background harmonies of “My 404,” along with the funk-lite electro-pop feel of the tune infuse this song with a skintight, shuffling motion that’s irresistible. “Luxury Of Love” pulses with tumescent sonic fragrances and Party Nails’ scrumptious tones.
“On The Rug” merges psychedelic hues with throbbing electro-pop swirls and textures, as Party Nails’ voice takes on a retro ’60s ambience enriched with contemporary verve.
Past Lives and Paychecks is tight and right. Party Nails has the rhythm.
