Which Vitamin C Supplement Actually Works?
Turns out, humans are the only mammals that don’t make their own vitamin C. It’s essential that we get it from our diets because of this. A lot of people only take Vitamin C when they’re sick. But our bodies need it when we aren’t sick as well, it doesn’t just boost our immune system.
It also aids our body function, as well as being an antioxidant. It helps brain health, tissue regeneration, the reduction of fatigue and hypertension, the absorption of iron, and the production of collagen, along with lots of other benefits.
There are plenty of Vitamin C dietary supplements on the market. Today we are going to compare two of the main players – Paleovalley’s Essential C Complex and Emergen-C.
Key similarities
- Both easily consumed.
- They both contain other health-boosting ingredients.

- Emergen-C is powder.
- Emergen-C is mostly available in stores.
- Paleovalley Essential C is readily available to buy on their site.

Paleovalley Essential C Complex Overview
To start, Paleovalley’s site is extremely informative. They are fully transparent about where they source their ingredients and how it is made. They have vitamin C from unripe acerola cherry leading the pack followed by camu camu and amla berry, which are the most concentrated sources of natural, organic vitamin C on the planet.
Their acerola cherries are organically grown in the rainforest of Brazil and picked before they ripen which is when the vitamin C content begins to degrade. Turns out, one unripe acerola cherry is 120x more powerful than an orange. With Paleovalley, you’ll be getting full-spectrum vitamin C – not the isolated, synthetic form found in other products.
Paleovalley’s Essential C Complex is recommended to be taken daily and is easily washed down with some water. The cost of 30 capsules starts at $23.99, which is $0.80 per serving if you buy in bulk or subscribe.

Emergen-C Overview
From what we could see on the site, Emergen-C doesn’t give much information about where their ingredients are sourced, but it does say that they are non-GMO. The site lists all of the ingredients, and it has a lot of extra ingredients, such as B vitamins, electrolytes, and probiotics, and more.
But how many of these ingredients are actually beneficial? We looked into it, and according to some experts, not all of them are. Two milligrams of Zinc isn’t enough to fight off a cold, and there’s no evidence that some of the antioxidant or electrolyte properties can directly protect against colds or other viruses. The research shows what we really need is just vitamin C.
Emergen- C is readily available to anyone, you can buy Emergen-C at your local drug store. A 10 pack comes to $8.29 in CVS, so that’s $0.82 per serving. It comes in powder form and is mixed into water.
