Meet new kid on the block: Michael Casper.

Just a few minutes ago, Casper, who is only 19 years old, dropped the music video for his single, “Teenage Apathy.” Shot in a single take, the video inserts viewers betwixt and between a ghoulish nightmare and a revelatory dreamscape, as Casper participates in an eccentric picnic attended by an enigmatic character.

According to Casper, the aural and visual elements represent, “A conversation on the difference between love and codependency.” In other words, there’s a fine line between being in love and just wanting to avoid loneliness.

“Teenage Apathy” blends cool R&B with the deep pulse of trap. Oozing synths and creamy background vocals provide fibrous textures, as the crunch of the snare and slap of the bass line infuse the tune with slow banging energy.

Casper’s voice switches between mellow and melodic to a rap-lite flow. The distinction of the two deliveries gives the music two flavors, one tight, the other buttery. Moody, dark, and melancholic, the music trickles and drips with an aura of angst, as if Casper is holding a vague and seemingly indecisive colloquy with himself.
