Max Drazen has always been able to make an absolute banger of a single. He pairs his beats with catchy lyrics that are worthy of being sung on repeat throughout the day. His music gets stuck in your head, and it’s the type you want to keep there forever.
With the release of his new single “Five Three,” Max Drazen takes us through what it’s like to be in love…and how it impacts everything in your life. It’s a fun tune that is just in time for the warm weather that spring brings us. It pairs perfectly with the euphoric feeling of hope that the spring and summer provides. “Five Three” is just one of those songs that has it all.
You can tell that Max and his team worked hard on the track to curate it specifically to perfection. During the five months it took to create “Five Three,” he rewrote and re-recorded the chorus to ensure it fit his vision of a huge, euphoric track. The single solidifies Max Drazen’s place as a talented singer-songwriter who is not to be underestimated. You can listen here:
His previous tracks like “Caffeine” and “Blurry Pictures” are just as catchy and relatable as his new work…while “Not Because I Loved You” taps into his heartbroken, lovesick side that balances vulnerability and self-reflection perfectly. For his new single, Max Drazen talked exclusively with Popdust to give us a better look inside his process:
Congratulations on “Five Three!” It’s a beautiful, uplifting love song…What was the inspiration behind the track?
Basically, I wanted to write a song that describes the way the smallest things can make the biggest impacts when you’re in love. It’s really just a celebration of that feeling. Secondarily, it’s also an ode to short queens; I’m into short girls haha.
What was your favorite memory making the single?
My favorite memory was writing the chorus. We originally just had that first verse and I couldn’t find a chorus that satisfied how good the verse was. I almost gave up on it and put it in the trash at one point. However, I decided to get in one last day to see if I could make it happen and the chorus flowed out of me in about 5 minutes. Then once I had the hook, it unlocked the rest of the song. I finished writing the entire thing that day and the rest is history!
You have an ability to blend your music into multiple genres… is there a certain genre you’d like to delve into in the future?
One of my biggest inspirations is Justin Timberlake. I’ve been really into his earlier records, especially “Summer Love” and basically the wholeFutureSex/LoveSounds album. I think the way he meshes pop with R&B and hip-hop is so cool. My next single is in that vein and I can’t wait to keep exploring that world.
You also released an incredible live performance of “Five Three”… how is performing the single live for you? Are you excited to perform it for your fans?
Thank you!! I had so much fun filming and singing that live. The only negative is that the “Five Three” chorus is a BELT so it’s a difficult one, but very fun to sing.
And I think my music is best consumed live, so I’m super excited to start live shows. My songs are often defined by how they build; each verse, pre-chorus and hook are bigger than the last. I can’t wait for people to feel those dynamics live!
What can fans expect in 2023?
So much music! I have an EP coming this spring/early summer, and more releases after that. I’m also starting live shows which I am super stoked about. I feel like this is going to be a big year!
