From the Palace to Your Playlist – Gospel Choir from Royal Wedding Lands Record Deal

They won over the royal newlyweds and the hearts of more than two billion people who watched their wedding.

Now, the Kingdom Choir is set to reach more musical milestones, as they have signed a record deal with Sony.

Thrilled with the news as much as fans were, the gospel choir recently tweeted, “We’re pleased to announce that on the 2 nd (of) November 2018 we will be releasing our debut album ‘Stand By Me’ with @SonyMusicUK. We cannot wait to share with you all everything we have been working on. You can now pre-order the album here on Amazon.”

If you saw the choir perform for Prince Harry and Megan Markle (and the rest of the lucky guests at the wedding of the year), the notion that a record deal was on the horizon was not so far-fetched. They instantly captivated the crowd – both in-person and through television sets across the world – with a flawless arrangement of “Stand By Me” that was moving and mesmerizing. From note one to the final key, the in-sync singers proved that practice mixed with passion pays off.

The director of the Kingdom Choir, Karen Gibson, says her life has changed considerably since she and her group became “famous.” She told CBS News’ Charlie D’Agata, “I do feel that my life is completely different to, say, two, three months ago.” She noted how people stop her on the street. “You can see from their responses, you can see from the look in their eye, that actually they’re being so sincere, you know, when they say, ‘Thank you’.”

While most fans are new and had never heard of the Kingdom Choir until the royal wedding whirlwind was underway, the choir has actually been around for 20+ years, beginning as the London choir. And they rehearse in Gibson’s living room! Perhaps Sony can splurge for new accommodations as the Kingdom Choir climbs the charts and collects some coin.

After they stole the show at the royal wedding, “Their performance of the song (“Stand By Me”) topped the U.S. Hot Gospel Songs chart,” as Reuters reports. “We really didn’t expect that and we really just thought that we would have a lovely time at the wedding and maybe have a bit of a platform, but then this happens,” Gibson said. “I would never have thought it in a million years.”

Thanks to Prince Harry and his beautiful bride, the Kingdom Choir will go from the palace to our playlists. If the rest of their repertoire is as remarkable as their version of “Stand By Me,” we are in for a record that is sure to break records!

Watch and listen to the Kingdom Choir make magic.
