Kim Petras Had the Perfect Response to Transphobic Protesters

A Kim Petras concert over the weekend had a few unwelcome guests, so the singer decided to take matters into her own hands with an unbothered sense of humor.

When Petras heard members of the Westboro Baptist Church were planning on protesting her Kansas City show Sunday night, she had the perfect response. She shared a clip on Instagram featuring shots of herself, edited with a news ticker that read “hoes mad” and soundtracked to Famous Dex’s trap beat banger of the same name. “This is my official statement on wbc picketing my show in Kansas City tomorrow,” Petras captioned the post. “This is the energy i’m bringing n it should be yours too.”

But that stroke of genius wasn’t the end of it. On the night of the show, as WBC protesters were posted up outside of the venue, Petras continued exemplifying her badassery by posing in front of them while clad in a black bodysuit and thigh-high boots, butt out and all. WBC is infamous for their use of excessive hate speech, and they often target the LGBT+ community and use dehumanizing slurs (Petras started gaining media attention as a teenager when she became one of the youngest people in her home country of Germany to undergo gender reassignment surgery).

Fellow stars like Charli XCX, Slayyyter, Demi Lovato, Tinashe, Madison Beer, and Grimes commented on Petras’ posts to share their support and adoration. Petras has no room for homophobia at her shows; to put it in her own words, anti-gay protesters are “not on her TRANSgenda today.”
