Jay-Z will grace Webster Hall with his “B-Sides 2” concert on Friday, April 26 in honor of its re-opening after extensive renovations.
The iconic venue has evolved with New York’s social scene, from hosting masquerade balls in the 1920s under the nickname of the “Devil’s Playhouse” to re-emerge in the 1980s as “The Ritz,” where Sting, Prince, Metallica, and Guns N’Roses would play. The 133-year-old building will re-open with Jay-Z’s follow-up to his 2015 “B-Sides” concert at Terminal 5.
Webster Hall was renovated with upgraded acoustics and amenities for both performers and concert-goers. While artists will enjoy direct access to the Ballroom stage and enhanced backstage areas, much-needed modernizations for the fans include central air conditioning, expanded restrooms, additional stairwells, and the venue’s first elevator. In addition, The Marlin Room is now The Lounge, a large meeting spot for ticket-holders that provides bar service. Jay Marciano, Chairman and CEO of AEG Presents, said, “In renovating one of New York’s most historic and iconic venues, our goals were simple and straightforward; maintain the integrity of the space, modernize it to create an incredible concert experience for fans and performers, and book a dynamic mix of artists in music today.”
“B-Sides 2” will mark Jay-Z’s first performance at Webster Hall, a strong indication that the renovated space has become better suited to modern acts. Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global, said, “When we were thinking about who would be the right choice to open this legendary venue, we knew it had to be a world-famous New York City icon.” He added, “No one fits that description better than Jay-Z, who will join an unparalleled list of celebrated performers who have played Webster Hall.” The full line-up of acts slated to perform at the revamped venue also includes Patti Smith, Broken Social Scene, MGMT, and Empire of the Sun.
Webster Hall will sell a limited number of tickets to Jay-Z’s “B-Sides 2” concert exclusively to American Express Card Members on Thursday, April 18 at 10 AM through 10 PM ET. Afterward, general ticket sales will begin Friday, April 19 at 11 AM ET.
