“Social media helps artists like me transcend geographical borders and connect to communities through music, which I believe to be a universal language.”
From sharing covers of renowned artists to her own original music, Luciana Zogbi has made the most of social media to foster a community of fans that demonstrate what a supportive force the internet can be for new, upcoming artists. Millions of fans have already fallen in love with her unique sound and strong vocals. We spoke with her to find out what inspires her work and her plans for the near future.
How did you become interested in music?
My father is a very musical person, and he always played guitar around the house. He encouraged me to play and sing when I was a kid, and I developed a passion for music.
You are Brazilian-Lebanese. Does your background influence your music at all?
Definitely. This is clear in my new single “Where We Belong”. I composed this song in the northeast of Brazil, next to a fishing village where most of the residents have African origins. You can hear some African drums in the pre-chorus. I spent a lot of my childhood there, and I felt like bringing some of that influence into my music.
Your fame came from recording and releasing a number of cover videos. How do you decide which songs you would like to release?
Sometimes I decide to cover a classic like “Zombie” by The Cranberries or “The Scientist” by Coldplay. These are songs that everyone knows and loves. Sometimes I record my own rendition of trending songs like “Despacito”. That’s always a lot of fun.
Social media has been a huge part of growing your fanbase. How do you feel about using platforms to connect with a community?
The internet is truly amazing. It allows me to perform to millions of people all around the globe, people that I would otherwise never reach. Social media also plays a huge role. It helps artists like me transcend geographical borders and connect to communities through music, which I believe to be a universal language.
Have you been able to connect with any of the artists that you have covered? Are there any you really want to meet?
Not yet! But I would love to meet Coldplay, U2, Adele, Ed Sheeran… All of them!
Do you plans to work on original material?
Yes, I started releasing original music recently and have two original songs out: “Could We Be” and “Where We Belong”.
What is coming up next for you?
I hope to continue releasing original music alongside my covers and share my message with the world.
