POPDUST ON RECORD: INJI
INJI

There are few musical success stories as impressive as INJI. Hailing from Istanbul, Turkey, she’s always been musically inclined…but the real start of her music career begins 5,000 miles away in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

INJI grew up studying classical music and playing the piano. She was always gifted, but it was only a matter of time before the world discovered that as well. First, she played the piano competitively. Then, she sanging in jazz bands.

She performed in a jazz band throughout her time at The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, but we know her story took a turn at that time. In 2022, while INJI was a student, “Gaslight” was born.

And unlike other artists who had a viral hit on TikTok, INJI wasn’t really aiming for vitality…actually it all started because she asked a guy she liked for help on the song. It was a plan to flirt – one that ends in two successes: that “guy” is now her boyfriend, and that song landed her a record deal.

“Gaslight” began as a school project, with INJI chanting catchy lyrics about being independent and not needing any man. Amassing hundreds of thousands of plays in no time, no one would really know that this is the first song INJI had ever made.

But sometimes, you just have that innate ability to create music. It comes to you naturally. And for INJI, it’s clear the talent was there from day one.

Since the inception of “Gaslight,” things changed pretty drastically for INJI. She’s released a few singles, and her debut EP, WE GOOD, which perfectly introduces her spectacular vocal range. While INJI may have created a dance-inspired track with “Gaslight,” she most certainly has the vocal power for a ballad.

When I ask INJI about this, she says it’s like a hidden weapon of hers. Many people don’t know that she can really sing with the best of them, but that’s what INJI is all about…Surprising people.

And as I sit with her, I learn that she’s a vibrant personality with so much new perspective to bring to the table. She’s willing to grow and learn, but there’s something inside of her that radiates confidence when creating music.

As we speak, INJI is about to embark on tour. I ask about her must-haves, and she runs to grab her stuffed animal. I get to know who she is, and hear a bit about this crazy journey that is the start of her music career.
