How HelloFresh Makes Home Cooking Fun and Easy

Over the past 5 years, making dinner has become a big chore. In the past, I used to enjoy cooking; my favorite dishes to prepare were pizza, a simple fresh salad or chocolate chip cookies from scratch. But because of our jobs and the kids, my husband and I resorted to the same old thing every night. A friend of mine suggested HelloFresh—one of these new meal-delivery kits that send you pre-planned dinners to your home. I signed up with the intention of saving time, but soon discovered that this was much more. With fresh food for my family and easy and quick recipes to follow, I find myself enjoying to cook at home and creating amazing dinners.

When I opened my first box, I was excited to see individually-portioned ingredients for each meal. I ordered the Classic Plan which provided 3 nights of dinner. I found 3 little boxes perfectly packed with everything I needed for each recipe. I am picky when it comes to veggies; I like them colorful and crispy, but off-season grocery store specials can make this challenging. The HelloFresh veggies were just the way I like them—beautiful orange carrots, green broccoli and red tomatoes. Overall, the recipes are easy to follow and quick to make. Since each ingredient is pre-measured, I can prepare everything in a half hour. My favorite recipe was the Shrimp Burgers with Sriracha Mayo and Carrot Fries. These were surprisingly delicious and even my kids loved them.

Shrimp burgers sounded interesting, but I wasn’t completely sold on using sriracha. However, I followed the instructions and found the burgers surprisingly delicious (including the sriracha mayo)!! The recipe called for a brioche bun that we warmed in the oven for 5 minutes before. It was heaven: just like when you get to the bakery first thing in the morning. Dinner also came with carrot fries: something I never would have thought up on my own. We sliced the carrots so they looked like orange french fries, drizzled them with olive oil, a pinch of salt and pepper, and baked them for 15 minutes— and that was it. Easy Peasy (and my kids ate all their carrots!). All together it was a wonderful meal and even the cooking part was fun.

I tried HelloFresh with hopes it would save me time, but it’s actually helped me get back into cooking. I don’t have time to be a gourmet chef, but I want to feed my family healthy food and I no longer have the energy to decide “what’s for dinner?”. The quality of produce was just as fresh as my farmer’s market and they have really good meats. My kids eat all the fish and seafood they send us and nothing is ever too exotic for them. Their website offers a variety of plans and dietary options. They also allow you to turn on and off delivery each week or pause your account. I went to HelloFresh looking to help save us time and instead discovered so much more. We’re all busy these days; our success story is that we’ve managed to turn a chore into something fun and our reward is a yummy dinner.
