French Horn Rebellion & Glassio Drop ‘Love Me Back’

Two of Brooklyn’s top electronic dance bands, French Horn Rebellion and Glassio, recently released a new single, “Love Me Back.”

The collaboration is the result of Glassio’s Sam R. reaching out to Robert and David Perlick-Molinari, the brothers who are the heart and soul of French Horn Rebellion, about the possibility of performing together. Before long, they were in the studio writing.

French Horn Rebellion formed when Robert Perlick-Molinari, a classically trained French horn player, was attending the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. Feeling like a round peg being forced into the square hole of classical music, he rebelled, creating interesting new music with an indefinable genre.

The band has toured with Matt & Kim, Yelle, MGMT, Cut Copy, Two Door Cinema Club, The Knocks, The Drums, St. Lucia, MNDR, HAERTS, Viceroy, Empire of the Sun, The B-52’s, Cherub, Dillon Francis, Blondie, and a host of others, as well as working with JD Samson and Jody Watley.

Glassio arrived on the scene in 2016 with “Try Much Harder,” followed by a series of contagious alt-dance/pop songs.

“Love Me Back” starts off with a funky syncopated groove driven by a bouncy bass line and snapping percussion. Percolating synths infuse the tune with a carbonated tang. Tight tones from the piano complement the velvety falsetto vocals.

Even though the feel of the song is energetic, the lyrics delve into the idea of making yourself emotionally vulnerable to another person, asking “Are you ever gonna love me back?” The question contains both doubt and optimistic yearning.

“Love Me Back” blends silky vocals with a catchy retro synth-pop vibe.
