When Demi Lovato released “Give Your Heart a Break” in 2011, she was damn near speaking to her future self! She wasn’t able to give her own heart a break for several years thanks to a string of toxic relationships with guys who weren’t always the best for her.
Despite that rocky past, she’s currently gearing up to tie the knot with a tatted musician named Jordan Lutes, aka Jutes. Demi recently posted on Instagram reveals just how stoked she is to make it official with her fiance. Especially now that she’s free from the chaotic love connections that once weighed her down.
Demi Lovato’s Most Toxic Exes…
Some of the men in Demi’s romantic past weren’t all that terrible. There wasn’t any massive drama to dissect when she got with guys like Cody Linley, Luke Rockhold, or Joe Jonas. Even though the Camp Rock duo’s relationship fell apart in 2010, they are still pals. If only all of Demi’s relationships could have ended so amicably!
A handful of her exes made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Her relationships with Trace Cyrus, Wilmer Valderrama, and Max Ehrich were all riddled with toxicity — and have we got the tea for you.
You might recognize Trace as Miley Cyrus’s older brother, or as a Metro Station band member. Beyond that, he’s also known for dating Demi briefly in 2009. At the time, their four-year age gap posed a slight issue for the relationship.
When they broke up, they went back and forth in some now-deleted Twitter posts, gathered by a TikToker named @LolNissy.
After calling it quits with Demi, Trace let the paparazzi snap pics of him with a Demi look-alike. He knew they were taking photos, so he started going wild with the PDA. Demi clapped back at the cringy photo opp by tweeting, “I’m sorry, was that supposed to hurt? Hm… Oh well :).”
Trace shot back with this tweet, “I just got really confused… Is it possible to break up when you were never really together with someone and only friends? Hmm, this is new to me.”
Trace’s messy tweet was his way of downplaying any real relationship or connection he shared with Demi. Talk about petty!
When Demi started dating Wilmer, their 12-year age gap was a major hot topic. Even though over a decade separates them, Demi seemed unbothered by it at the time. But later in her adulthood, realized it was super problematic.
In 2022, Demi released “29”, a song that calls attention to the fact that she met Wilmer when she was only 17. He was 29. The scathing lyrics speak volumes about how victimized she felt in that relationship.
Post-split, it appears Demi reflects on Wilmer as an older man who took advantage of her and emotionally manipulated her for six years from 2010 until 2016.
Lastly, things fully crashed and burned between Demi and Max after he was exposed for posting alleged thirst tweets about Selena Gomez on social media. Demi’s relationship with Max was pretty serious. When they got engaged in 2020, many of us were convinced they were going to make it down the aisle!
Alleged screenshots of old tweets from Max trying to flirt with Demi’s ex-best friend went viral right before Demi ended things with Max. At the time, Demi slammed the tweets as being photoshopped and fake, but regardless, her relationship with Max still ended shortly after.
Demi and Jutes Are a Match Made in Heaven
Although Demi’s had her fair share of drama in the dating arena, things appear to be smooth sailing between her and Jutes these days. On Valentine’s Day 2025, she posted a series of photos of the couple looking divine in a wedding-themed photo shoot.
She added a heartfelt caption that said, “Jordan, I cannot WAIT to marry you!! The past three years have been the best three years of my life and I have you to thank for that. I’m obsessed with your heart, your love, and your light. I can’t wait to grow old with you and start a family together. Happy Valentine’s Day to the love of my life. I love you, honey!”
Her comment section is filled with fans who are supportive of this union. People are thrilled to see Demi being treated so well.
