POPDUST ON RECORD: DAYGLOW

POPDUST ON RECORD: DAYGLOW

I sit down with Dayglow the week of his album release. We’re calling it his debut album, but to be fair to him, he’s released a few mega-successful EP’s that have solidified him as a key voice in the indie scene.

Let’s back up to 2018, where Dayglow created a sonically sound EP, Fuzzybrain. Many will mark this as the catalyst for him: with gargantuan hits like “Can I Call You Tonight,” which would eventually go super viral on TikTok a few years later, and “Hot Rod,” which has an electrifying effect on crowds.

When I ask him about the creation of this album, he describes it as just having pure fun. He’s very in tune with who he is as a person, almost too down to earth to believe. And the thing about Dayglow is that he’s something of a musical genius.

He creates all of his music himself. Production, singing, music backing, anything. He shares that, while many have a team of writers sitting behind a single, his are wholly his own. What you’re getting from each Dayglow song is a complete labor of love.

With his “debut” album, Dayglow, he wanted to go back to that happy place he was at when creating Fuzzybrain. We liken it to connecting with your inner child…trying to recreate those happy memories that put you in a headspace to create something new, something beautiful.

And it worked. Although not truly his debut to the music industry, Dayglow the album is an introduction to who Dayglow, the artist, really is. And as he embarks on a tour where fans can flock and hear his music come to life, he’s just getting started.

What you get from Dayglow is easy listening, an introspective anthology filled with indie jams. He shared he wanted to go back to the sound of the 2010’s…when bands like The 1975 ruled the scene and sites like Tumblr dictated our aesthetic.

Yes, you get the nostalgic 2010’s indie alternative sound that fuses rock with pop…but you also get something that only Dayglow can capture. Which is what makes his music so special. You can listen to the album here:

It’s going to be a huge year for Dayglow, who keeps ticking milestones off. Luckily, he took some time to walk us through this massive 2024 so far. We talk about all things music, his upcoming tour, and more…Check it out below!
