Does Chappell Roan even want to be famous? Some fans are convinced she could care less about fame and notoriety, even though she’s a full-on pop star these days.

Her first song ever was “Die Young” back in 2014. Then Chappell blew everyone away when she released “Good Hurt” in 2017. But things seriously took off for Chappell in 2024 when “Good Luck, Babe!” landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. So… Why does it seem like Chappell is actively sabotaging her own career? Here’s what fans are saying on the matter.

Fans Think Chappell Might Be Tanking Her Own Success Story

A Reddit thread was recently launched about Chappell and everything she’s got going on in the entertainment industry. Fans are deeply concerned about the way she’s approaching her rising fame.

One person wrote, “Chappell Roan is such a talented singer, but it feels like she’s actively trying to sabotage her own career. There’s an obvious lack of media training and a PR presence, which if you don’t have one, you need the other. She seems to look for fights where there are none…”

They went on to describe an incident where Chappell yelled, “Shut the f*** up!” at paparazzi when they weren’t even talking directly to her. The Redditor also noted that once a celeb is labeled “difficult to work with,” it’s tough to get beyond that label.

Others totally agree that Chappell isn’t embracing the life of a pop star the way other celebs graciously and confidently do. Chappell’s consistently compared to the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Olivia Rodrigo. However, none of those girlies seem to have major complaints about being super famous.

Of course, there are tons of diehard fans who support Chappell’s approach to fame. They don’t see anything wrong with it when she claps back against the paparazzi or complains about how much overexposure she’s dealing with.

Chappell Has Already Slammed Superstardom

When venting during an interview with The Face, Chappell discussed how intense it feels to be recognized by so many people.

She said, “I feel like fame is just abusive. The vibe of this… stalking, talking sh** online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public — is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband. That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”

Does this mean Chappell is going to fall back from the spotlight and go into hiding for a while? Based on her October 29, 2024 Instagram post, that’s unlikely. She uploaded a photo thread with a caption that said, “Album kinda popped off imo but it is time to welcome a hot new bombshell into the villa.”

Plenty of people assume that’s a hint that another album is on the way. If another album is truly pending, she’ll likely go on tour to promote the new music. Pop music lovers are chomping at the bit for another song like “Pink Pony Club” to play on the radio!

The massive success of her 2023 album — The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess — leaves fans champing at the bit for anything Chappell brings to the table. After taking home the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, and even the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, we can’t imagine Chappell disappearing off into the sunset.

She might continue clapping back at photographers when she feels like it, but she’ll hardly ditch her music career forever. We’ve gotta keep one thing in mind though: Chappell outright revealed the one thing that would make her walk away from music forever.

In that same interview with The Face, she said, “I told myself, if this ever gets dangerous, I might quit. It’s dangerous now, and I’m still going. But that part is not what I signed up for.”

Can stalkers and creeps just leave Chappell alone so we don’t run the risk of early retirement from our fave drag-queen-makeup-wearing songstress? Cool? Thanks.
