In Popdust’s column, Box Office Breakdown, we aim to inform you of the top flicks to check out every weekend depending on what you’re in the mood to enjoy. Looking to laugh? What about having your pants scared off? Maybe you just need a little love? Whatever the case may be, we have you covered. Take a peek at our top picks for this week…
The House of Tomorrow
There are people who live as recluses off in the woods and there are people who are punks, but what happens when these people come together? A teenage boy has been living a geo-dome house with his Nana his entire life, using the odd lifestyle as a tourist attraction, but when she suffers from a stroke, the plan changes. After meeting a green-haired punk and his sister, this teenage boy discovers the joy of the wild music scene, and may never want to go back as it sure beats his sheltered world based off the theories of R. Buckminster Fuller. Let ’em live, let ’em love, let ’em go crazy, am I right?

Super Troopers 2
We’ve heard a lot about the border issues between the United States and Mexico, but what about our neighbors to the north? This is a job for the Super Troopers to handle…we guess. Mac, Thorny, Foster, Rabbit, and Farva all return to set up their newest Highway Patrol location after being fired from mishandling their mission when we first met them. New challenges will come their way, including a cocky mayor from the newly-acquired Canadian town, troublesome Mounties, and a whole kind of new drug smuggling ring. What could make this worse? Oh, there’s a big bear, too.

Duck Duck Goose
Kids and birds alike will flock to this flick over the weekend, taking it’s title from the game many of us played as children. A bachelor goose is flying high, until he runs into two silly ducklings who have lost their way. The group decides to start traveling down south together, which given their differing personalities, is set to be a very long journey. A joint American-Japanese project, the film will be a bigger thrill for the children then the adults, but at least it will get you thinking about spring coming along soon!

Gray Matter
It wouldn’t be the weekend without a horror film, now would it? And this one involves aliens! Since the 1940s, one species of aliens has been known as “GRAYS,” and they’ve been seen all around the globe. People think they’re here to study the human species in the hopes of one day invading Earth, but this might not be correct. Maybe these other life forms are just looking to protect humans. A meteorite crashes and changes everything, and the seemingly harmless beings suddenly turn violent. Now the humans must destroy the creatures before it’s too late.

And our ⭐️ TOP PICK ⭐️ …
Disneynature’s Dolphins
Some of you may have forgotten that this weekend also involves Earth Day, and as part of their annual tradition, Disney is releasing the latest installment in their “nature” series. This one is undoubtedly the best yet. Go on a journey with Echo as he tries to decide whether or not to grow up in the complex, dolphin society (I mean, they are the only other species other than humans who have sex for pleasure, after all). Owen Wilson narrates so it’s sure to induce some “wow” moments from the audience. Maybe I’m going overboard, but this sure sounds like the best birthday present ever.
