Becoming a parent is a transformative process in a lot of ways. Before, the world feels very “me” centric, and after, you’re looking after a little mini-version of you and have a whole new life on your hands to take care of. Things that didn’t matter to me before suddenly have become of utmost importance – like what are the best toys for her age, whether or not something is organic, chemical-free or BPA-free. And while you know in your heart that there’s many ways of getting it right, you just want it to be absolutely perfect for your child. Whenever I need some sage parenting advice, I turn to my resident mommy guru Kate, who’s my sister-in-law and a tested mom of three.
For my daughter’s second birthday, Kate surprised us with a six-month subscription to Bluumexplaining how it has changed the way she thinks about toys and products for her kids. Bluum is a monthly subscription box for parents and children filled with high-quality products catered to every stage of a child’s development, from infancy to preschool. By receiving monthly boxes based on her kids’ ages, she’s discovered new brands, fun toys, and useful products, and insisted we use it for our daughter.
Our first Bluum box was filled with all kinds of goodies for Ava – the box normally comes with some sort of book or puzzle, wooden toys, the occasional clothing item like cute animal creature socks, and something useful like wet wipes with coconut oil extract. Bluum has a team of M.O.M.s (Masters of Merchandise) who research what children should be interacting with at different developmental stages. Ava always asks about her Bluum box, or as she calls it “boom box.” Her most recent box contained a wonderful little book called “Tap! Tap! Guess the Toy!” where she has to guess what toy each animal is playing with based on the noise. She and I love reading the book at night before she goes to bed, and it’s a great way for us to bond while she learns.
The items in the box “grow” as your child grows, meaning they become a bit more advanced over time, and Bluum knows to send relevant products based on your child’s age. Before a box is sent out, I get a notification and can view the contents ahead of time, or I can choose to wait and be surprised. Since getting started with Bluum, it has completely changed the way I view shopping for my daughter. Rather than, shopping for disposable, plastic toys at big chain stores, we get a curated experience for our daughter and our family and it gives us something fun to look forward to together. We’ve become more conscientious of what we give to our daughter, and Bluum has helped us do so. After the six months Kate gifted us were up, we signed ourselves up for another year of Bluum boxes.
Bluum just gets it. There are so many stores and products out that there that it’s hard to know what’s “right” for my child. Bluum cuts through all that noise for me by finding the right products and doing all the research, and delivering only the best tested products from trusted brands. Opening the new box with Ava each month is always something we both look forward to – I love that Bluum delivers something that both me and her can both get excited about.
