Cutting between black-and-white footage of Black singing alone in the spotlight on a smokey stage and dancing, awash in muted tones in front of a satin curtain, the video alternately evokes Bessie Smith and
Vogue-era Madonna. It’s a fitting pastiche for an artist who regularly combines jazz, R&B, and electronica.
