By the grace of all that is good in this world, I got tickets to the COWBOY CARTER Tour. I’m buzzing about it with the rest of the Beyhive, and you can believe I’ve put a ton of thought into what I’m going to wear.
Like Bey, I’m a Virgo, and we have to make sure everything is perfect. My outfit is ready, is yours?
If you’re unsure what to show up in, I have a few of “them big ideas” to help you. Here are the hottest styles to wear to the CC tour that will turn heads and have everyone saying, “Looka there, looka there, now” when you walk in.
Denim on Denim on Denim
Let’s start with the obvious. “LEVII’S JEANS,” a sexy song featuring Post Malone, is all about that denim. If you’re at a loss for what to wear to this country concert, a reliable pair of Levi’s is a no-brainer. But maybe we can interpret the “denim on denim on denim” vibe a little differently.
The jeans and jean shorts are a given, but what about a denim bodysuit or dress? Or you could focus on denim accessories, from a denim purse to a jean belt. You could also go full-on country with a pair of good ‘ol fashioned overalls. Do your hair up with denim bows or a denim headband.
I highly encourage you to think outside the box in terms of the denim theme. When I say skirt, think about a maxi skirt or A-line silhouette, as opposed to the typical jean mini skirt. Wear bedazzled or embroidered jeans. Or look for uniquely colored denim that goes far beyond blue.
Drippin’ in Gold and Honey
Both RENAISSANCE and COWBOY CARTER have honey-themed songs, so Bey clearly has a soft spot for that golden nectar. And to pile onto the honey vibes, she wore a sparkling golden dress to the Grammy’s, where she won her very first Album of the Year for CC.
There are two directions you can go with this idea. The first is to rock a glimmering gold look. And the second is to wear honey-themed items.
For the first option, you can go with just about any silhouette you want, from a pair of shiny gold leather pants to the draped dress of your dreams. If it’s gold, it works. Sure, you could wear a rich yellow color, but Bey would want you to shine. So I recommend wearing gold clothes with a metallic sheen or, at the very least, a boatload of sequins and jewels.
The second option is more literal, in the sweetest way possible. Pull on this bright-n-beautiful T-shirt that says “Honey” or a dress with a bee pattern. Look for clothes with honey pot or bee hive graphics that fit the aesthetic.
Red, White, and Bey
Take inspiration from the COWBOY CARTER album cover and sport a super patriotic outfit. It’s not about loving the US; it’s about being part of Bey Nation. You don’t have to wear assless chaps like Bey (unless you want to), but incorporating these colors into your outfit is an easy way to match the album’s aesthetic.
This vibe is my top recommendation if you don’t want to break the bank on a new outfit. I’d bet my Beyoncé merch that you already own something red, something white, and something blue. So this is a breezy style to achieve.
But if you’re happy to hit the stores — or sites — for a fresh look, go for American flag adjacent styles. Think stripes, stars, vibrant hues, fireworks, and checkers! This look should be your Fourth of July outfit on steroids.
Country From Hat to Boot
Another obvious style you can rock is a classic country look. Throughout her country era, Beyoncé has sported plenty of cowboy hats, boots, and belt buckles. Follow in her cowgirl footsteps!
If you’re like me, you buy concert clothes that you wear again and again. I don’t see myself flipping on a cowboy hat before I go to Thursday night pub trivia, so this aesthetic isn’t for me. But if you’re a country girl at heart or love an eclectic fashion moment, I’m here to support you in those stylish stirrups.
But let’s kick the country look up a notch. Go for bejeweled cowboy hats, hot pink boots, and belt buckles that say “Cuntry”. Make those traditional hayseed cowboy silhouettes as feisty as our new Queen of Country. Get out there and put the “Ow!” in “cOWgirl”, gurrrrl!
High Fashion in a Simple White Tee
To draw from another “LEVII’S JEANS” lyric, “give you high fashion in a simple white tee,” why not keep it simple and sexy? Beyoncé gives us a masterclass on how to look like a goddess in a plain white tee and jeans.
Who among us has Bey’s bod? And although we can dream — we can still look fabulous in a basic T-shirt. I promise, if you wear a white tee and Levi’s to her concert, you’ll fit right in.
And not all white tees are created equally! You could wear a teeny-tiny baby tee that hugs your body or wear an oversized tee as a cheeky dress. Wear a cropped tee or explore unconventional materials, like white lace, leather, knit, mesh, silk, and more. Don’t be afraid to completely rethink what a white T-shirt can be.
Bolo Babes
Bolo ties aren’t necessarily a closet staple for most of us. But if there were ever a bolo moment, it’s the CC tour. And in my seriously important bolo tie research, I was pleasantly surprised by how freakin’ cute some of these are!
You can find bolo ties with hearts, flowers, birds, and glitter, of course. Capture the sweet-as-honey theme with a bee-themed bolo tie. Or complete your red, white, and Bey look with a blue star tie. Other symbols and themes from the album to consider include roses (“MY ROSE”), playing cards (“TEXAS HOLD’ EM”), crows and ravens (“BLACKBIIRD”)
But there are also simple, traditional styles that are perfect for a country vibe. Turquoise bolo ties give your outfit a pop of color, and gold ones have a luxe look. The options here are as endless as Beyoncé’s genius, so I recommend doing a deep dive into the bolo tie universe until you find the one.
Paisley Princess
Beyoncé’s Grammy dress will go down in history. It was a custom-made Schiaparelli glittering-gold bodycon gown with a white paisley pattern. You can’t buy her dress for obvious reasons, but I would guess it costs over $5,000. Most of the concert tickets aren’t that much!
If Schiaparelli isn’t quite in your budget, that’s okay. You can still channel those Paisley Princess vibes. Look for bodycon paisley dresses for the same sexy, yet pastoral look. But the fit and flare silhouette can also be gorgeous and sensuous.
There are sooo many ways to be a Paisley Princess! Wear a paisley handkerchief or bandana — a country fashion staple. There are paisley tube tops, tank tops, T-shirts, and much more. If your heart was set on that breathtaking custom Schiaparelli, the closest I could find is this sequin dress — you’re welcome, Beyhive.
Dolly P Realness
Dolly Parton is a source of inspiration for COWBOY CARTER and blessed Beyoncé with the rights to revamp “Jolene” turning it into the don’t-mess-with-me-and-my-man anthem, “JOLENE.” So, embodying Dolly’s iconic look is a delightful way to roll up to the concert.
But I also want to suggest using Linda Martell, likely a bigger source of inspiration for the album, as your outfit inspo. The two country music legends have similar vibes anyway: big hair, billowy sleeves, fitted vests, and bell-bottom jeans. Dolly’s just a titch more flamboyant and saucy.
The best way to capture this aesthetic is with a matching suit or two-piece set. But a full-body suit that makes a statement is another fabulous Dolly option. You can also go on a fringe binge with a fringed jacket or boots. Or you can tone it down and still show love for Dolly with a lovely graphic shirt.
Animal Energy
COWBOY CARTER has plenty of animal symbolism and lyrics for you to latch onto. From the wolves in “II Hands II Heaven” to songs like “Desert Eagle,” “Alligator Tears,” and “Blackbird,” there’s no shortage of animal inspo.
Horses are also fair game since it’s a country album, and she’s riding a magnificent mare the Beyhive lovingly named “Chardonneigh.” Finally, cow patterns are never wrong at a country concert.
I’m not going to promote wearing animal pelts, but a faux cowhide jacket or fake alligator skin boots? Hell yes! Wear a shirt with wolves howling or an eagle soaring through the air. Whatever animal resonates with you, let it inspire your outfit!
Mix Themes Like Bey Mixes Genres
As Linda Martell says in the “SPAGHETII” intro, “Genres are a funny little concept.” You don’t have to box yourself into one of these aesthetics. Be bold and mix and match your favorite elements – get capricious!
