Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To This Friday

Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To This Friday

Whenever I sit down to write this articles, I’m reminded of one simple fact: how lucky we are to have new music each week. I’m a tireless listener of music who cycles through playlists like it’s my job. In fact, I made it my job to recap the best new music releases each week.

What’s beautiful about the Weekend Playlist is that it’s ever-evolving, and you’ll never get bored with finding your new favorite song. In fact, something very interesting in the music industry is occurring.

The internet is abuzz currently because both Shawn Mendes and Joe Jonas delayed the release of their new music on October 18. Now, I’m sure you’re like: what does that have to do with the cost of tea in China?

Normally, when artists delay their music releases it’s because an even bigger artist is releasing that day. They don’t want to hurt their chances at the charts by being eclipsed by the likes of Taylor Swift.

Some are even hinting at a potential Harry Styles return. And while this may mean nothing, next week’s Weekend Playlist could be very exciting.

The excitement never stops when you’re a fan of music…but our focus is on the present. This week, like every week, I’ve gathered the best new music releases. As always, let’s get listening!

Mabel, Ty Dolla Sign- “Stupid Dumb”

Mabel has confirmed herself as the reigning queen of R&B right now. With refreshing lyricism and catchy hooks, her smooth vocals are always a pleasure to listen to. With her single, “Stupid Dumb (ft. Ty Dolla $ign),” is the perfect song to lead off this playlist because it’s reminiscent of the old R&B we love.

She has a way of melding her vocals with Ty Dolla $ign’s rap to create a pop-R&b fused track. “Stupid Dumb” is fun throughout.

Charli XCX, Ariana Grande- “Sympathy is a knife”

Like Charli said, BRAT Summer is a mindset…not a season. We aren’t leaving the club, in fact we are still staying out until sunrise. Charli declares BRAT fall is just as relevant as BRAT Summer with her brat and it’s completely different but also still brat remix album.

She saddled up with heavy hitters like The 1975, Julian Casablancas, Ariana Grande, and more…and this remix is every bit as iconic as we thought it would be. Charli has been a pop queen, but this just proves who rules our pop culture scene.

Dom Dolla, Tove Lo- “CAVE”

What was described as a stylistic shift for both artists seems to work perfectly. Dom Dolla was one of our rising artists this year for a reason, one of them being that he continues to sonically push his creative boundaries and it pays off.

This collaboration with Tove Lo shows how both are able to go the extra mile with their music and aren’t afraid to step out of their comfort zones. “CAVE” is haunting in the best way.

Mt. Joy- “She Wants To Go Dancing”

After debuting the single at their sold-out Madison Square Garden show, Mt. Joy is releasing groovy track, “She Wants To Go Dancing.” After speaking with Mt. Joy, I realized the band is all about having fun with making music, and that’s what makes it so special.

Their talent as a whole shines through in this track. It’s both nostalgic and retro, it indeed makes you want to go dance the night away. Sometimes, it feels like Mt. Joy just fully understands the assignment when they make new music.

BLOND:ISH, Zeeba- “Different Way”

BLOND:ISH and Zeeba’s collab on “Different Way” is potentially one of the most exciting submissions on this playlist. It’s refreshing, a dance heavy track that combines all of the best elements of electronic dance and pop music. You’ll want to hit replay the moment the track ends.

Truly a great song for driving, partying, or doing chores this weekend. It’s rare that a song fits most occasions, but “Different Way” has the unique ability to do just that.

Jeremy Zucker, Chelsea Cutler- “A-frame”

Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler are already a certified platinum collaboration. Now, ahead of their collaborative album and tour comes folk heavy love song, “A-frame.” Honestly, this song moved me when I first heard it. It encapsulates the feeling of sunshine and love, and feels like a warm hug to listen to.

The two are longtime friends who understand each other musically, which helps them create easy hits. “A-frame” is gentle and forgiving, an instant fall classic that I didn’t even know I needed.

Alok, Gryffin, Julia Church- “Never Letting Go”

Finishing off the playlist this week is Alok, Gryffin, and Julia Church’s high energy collab, “Never Letting Go.” It’s already a classic dance track, combining Alok and Gryffin’s ability to produce an elite beat with Julia Church’s strong vocal ability.

It’s everything you can ask for from an EDM track, dynamic from the very start. It proves that there’s room for multiple stars on one track, and they can all shine equally.
