Alec Baldwin, the notoriously temperamental actor known of late for his impression of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, was arrested on Friday for misdemeanor assault, according to police.
Baldwin’s latest explosion allegedly unfolded over a parking spot: according to witnesses, a third party had been holding a spot for Baldwin near his Manhattan home when a driver came and took the spot, leading to an argument that ended with Baldwin punching the driver. As of Friday afternoon, he was in a holding cell in Greenwich Village.
Baldwin is known for igniting the ire of the president with his mocking impression, but the actor is no stranger to histrionics. In 2014, he was arrested for disorderly conduct for drawing a crowd when his outburst against two police officers who had stopped him for riding his bicycle the wrong way. Immediately upon his release, Baldwin posted on Twitter that “New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity.”
The actor has also been known to hurl homophobic epithets during arguments, get physical with paparazzi, and criticize late night television hosts for being too political. When asked for comment about Baldwin’s latest kerfuffle, all that the president had to say was “I wish him luck.” First son Donald Trump, Jr., however, responded with the spectacularly hypocritical, “is anyone shocked at this piece of garbage anymore?”
