How Daily Harvest Helped Me Ring in the New Year!
I’m a total junkie when it comes to healthy food blogs and Instagram accounts…although I can’t necessarily say the same about my offline life, thanks to a serious addiction to ordering take out after a long day at work. But lately I’ve been feeling sluggish, and I know that just looking at pictures of colorful, nutritious foods won’t do the trick. So, this New Year, I resolved to become the health nut my browsing history thinks I am. First I needed a plan. I don’t have time to cook, and even if I did I just know my version of a healthy smoothie would end up being some spinach, OJ, and yogurt thrown in a blender. Not the worst, but not exactly the most nutritious either. When I found out Daily Harvest creates totally fresh, plant-based smoothies chock full of superfoods, and designed with all the nutrients you need to keep your body working at its best while on the go, I thought I may have finally found my resolution fix.
Browsing Daily Harvest’s site, I saw all the things I look for in a good food blog: detailed explanations of the ingredients’ nutritional benefits, complete transparency, and absolutely beautiful images of food you want to eat, like, right now. But instead of just giving you smoothie recipes, they actually send you everything you need in one cup, so all you have to do is add water (or almond milk, or whatever floats your boat), blend and start your day. They offer smoothies, hearty Harvest Bowls, soups, and chia bowls, so there’s plenty of variety. I decided to start with the 9-Cup weekly plan right after the New Year, and chose a mix of smoothies for the morning and Harvest Bowls to mix it up in the afternoon.
As expected, the week before New Year’s I ate about a million gingerbread men and washed them all down with glasses of champagne. I could not have been more ready for a health reset. When my first weekly package arrived, I couldn’t wait to see if I could finally match my aspirational online presence IRL. Each cup was packed with the freshest ingredients, flash-frozen at their peak ripeness, so they maintain their optimal nutritional value. On day 1, I grabbed a Blueberry & Chocolate Smoothie for breakfast, full of rich greens, almonds, and other superfoods, but it tastes like dark chocolate. Then I tried a Butternut Squash Chimichurri Harvest Bowl for lunch, made with seeds, squash and other veggies instead of traditional grains, which energized me for the rest of the day without leaving me feeling sluggish.
After my first week was up, I felt lighter, and had more motivation to make it to the gym after work; I was wasting way less time worrying about what I could eat that would be both tasty and healthy. I’ll definitely be continuing with a monthly delivery plan of 24 cups, and I love not having to think about ordering more or running out. Daily Harvest is my secret weapon to keeping my New Year’s wellness goal and getting all the nutrients my body needs without sacrificing flavor.
They cost about $7 a cup and I chose a weekly plan, which means that I have breakfast and lunch for the work week plus two snacks for only $90; that’s much less than what I used to spend on breakfast and lunch, but it’s way better quality and actually healthy.
