Newcomer Barny Fletcher Aims for the Rap Charts with New Single

Hailing from Somerset, England, the 21-year-old rapper is new to the game, but he’s not letting that stop him from setting his sights high.

Barny Fletcher has only been rapping for about a year and a half, but his confidently smooth flow could trick you into believing otherwise. Having first gained recognition for the stylistically diverse track, “DOUGH” at the end of 2018 and following it up with the lyrically meandering “Christ Flow” shortly thereafter, Fletcher is at it again on the breezy, feel-good banger, “Blu Skyes.”

Over a laid-back but energized hip-hop beat provided by Cadenza (who has also produced for MIA, Jorja Smith, and Flohio), Fletcher gets his melodic flow on, toeing the line between rapping and singing, a la Chance the Rapper or Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. “I be on that spaceship, we flyin’ away to horizon/ follow that bright sun, blue skies, I likes ’em,” Fletcher sings over a catchy hook laced with fun adlibs and vocal harmonies. Infectious and full of good vibes, you’ll have a hard time not singing along whenever this song comes on.

Fletcher is already killing it overseas, and now he’s poised to make the US take note. With an eclectic list of influences ranging from Queen to Jay-Z, we can expect plenty of new and interesting things from the young emcee/writer/singer once his forthcoming mixtape drops. In the meantime, you can catch him on tour this Summer on the European festival circuit.
