This Haunts Me: "Jen from Appleton" and the Epic Bath and Body Works Rant

Sometimes you've just got to get yourself that Winter Candy Apple and Iced Gingerbread.

I hope Jen from Appleton, Wisconsin is doing well these days.

As for Angela, the star of the best Bath & Body Works rant of all time (and there are surprisingly many on YouTube), I hope she's living a Winter Candy Apple-scented life to the fullest.

In 2012, the aspiring vlogger posted a rant about her dire mission to acquire two coveted candles from Bath & Body Works: Winter Candy Apple and Iced Gingerbread. The outstanding 11-minute video recounts her harrowing journey to the store in APPLETON, WISCONSIN (it's very important the store is called out for their heinous treatment of Angela).

After the video was discovered and spread across Tumblr, it was recognized as a cultural masterpiece of our time, a treatise on the frailty of the human condition and our undying perseverance to end our own suffering at any cost.

5 Reasons You Actually Should Put Gorilla Glue in Your Hair

What's the worst that could happen?

TikTok / @im_d_ollady

Update 2/12/2021: Since publication, a 37-year-old Louisiana man named Len Martin reportedly attempted to jump on the social media wave and prove that Tessica Brown's hair mishap was a hoax by using Gorilla Glue to attach a plastic cup to his upper lip in order to show how easily it is to remove... Except that it's not easy at all, and he ended up in the hospital, as will anyone else who attempts the "Gorilla Glue Challenge."

It's not yet known if his lip will heal on its own or require surgery. So in case it wasn't clear from the disclaimers that this article was intended as satire, let's state it clearly: if you put Gorilla Glue on yourself, you will regret it, and will more than likely end up in the hospital... So don't.

This Haunts Me: Murderous Cartoon Animals of the 2000s

Web shows like "Happy Tree Friends" and "Llamas With Hats" emblemize a disturbing trend that I can't shake from my memory.

Fall Out Boy - The Carpal Tunnel Of Love

Last week, a friend of mine brought to our group chat a question that'd leave my brain spinning with nostalgia for the rest of the day: "What's everyone's favorite terrible viral video from the 2000s?"

We immediately covered the basics: Original songs like "Shoes" and "Chocolate Rain," the purely insane (but still sort of relevant?) "Leave Britney Alone," the insta-party trick "Daft Hands," and Weezer's "Pork and Beans" music video that managed to convene all the aforementioned videos into one nifty time capsule. Soon, we were discussing the deep cuts of mid-2000s YouTube virality, including the equally adorable and disturbing animated web series "Happy Tree Friends."

TW for discussion of sexual assault and severe child abuse.

One of the latest trends on TikTok involves users filming their "traumatized" reactions to the controversial indie film Megan Is Missing.

Michael Goi's 2011 movie uses found footage style to excavate the kind of psychological horror that stirs just beneath your consciousness when you hear of heinous crimes in the news, like the NXIVM sex cult, Sarah Lawrence sex cult, or anything Jeffrey Epstein said or did in his entire profane life (before he, you know, didn't kill himself). When you hear of such depraved acts of sexual abuse, you don't fully absorb the implications or lifelong impacts on the lives of the survivors.

How could you?

America has a police issue.

The police are massively overfunded compared to education, social work, and other projects of public benefit to the American populace. This results in militarized units of racist, violent, poorly trained cops who operate from positions of fear and have an uncanny knack for disproportionately killing black people.
