Little People Release Hypnotic 'Embrace'
A down-tempo track filled with lush strings and warm bass.
Yesterday, Swiss/UK producer Little People, aka Laurent Clerc, dropped a new single, "Embrace."
"Embrace" is the third single from his forthcoming album, Landloper, slated to drop January 11. The album is Little People's first release since 2015, and is the culmination of Clerc's sojourn to Portland, Oregon and his six-week tour opening for Odesza.
While in Portland, Clerc worked with Reva Devito (whose voice appears throughout the album), Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne, and Tif Lamson. Each sound on the album expresses a precise idea delivered via a warm, intricate soundscape.
Upon his return to the UK, various labels communicated their interest in Clerc's new music. In the end, Clerc decided not to sacrifice his artistic creativity at the altar of the A&R suits, instead opting to create a new label that would allow him to release music on his own terms. He co-founded Future Archive Recordings, a company dedicated to letting artists release their music on their own terms.
"Embrace" opens with a measured rhythmic pulse accented by popping swirls of sparkling color. The R&B-flavored, hip-hop-lite melody flows with sensuous textures, highlighted by vocals simmering with smoldering energy, sumptuous and lush. Elegant strings infuse the tune with gently mounting depth as the vocals expand dreamily.
