This is SUCH an odd choice for a first single. It's not a bad song at all (I actually like it), but it feels like a third or fourth single. Or even an album track. But a lead single for a long-awaited new album? Uh...

I've got to agree with your point that shutting out every source of homophobia in popular culture would make for a pretty boring life. But there's something about Tyler that's just...I don't know...it hits me in the wrong way. And I must say, as a gay man, I take all his comments as personal. So that's why I had the knee-jerk reaction from earlier. I guess what I DON'T get is the need for this post at all. It feels like this post was basically just a "Yeah, he's a homophobe, but it's okay..." thing. I know that's probably not the case, but still. (And, I've got to admit, I DO think there is right and wrong when it comes to this. Tyler is wrong. But I guess as far as coverage goes...)

Anyhow, keep up the good work Andrew and the rest of you here at Popdust. Even though this post pissed me off, I must say it's SO refreshing to see somebody taking pop music seriously and writing about it.

Holy shit, Popdust. I'm a fan of this blog and have been since the beginning. But C'MON. Are you seriously defending this guy? His music is derivative and his words go beyond simply "hurtful" to just plain dangerous. I simply cannot believe you're giving this guy a pass and acting like this isn't a big deal. Jesus.

Taylor Swift also did the whole "OMG I LOVE SUPER BASS" thing as well, on some radio show a while back. And she even rapped a bit of it.

WAIT. Beyonce gets a four out of five for her live shows?! Are you serious?! That woman really does deserve seven out of five. C'mon.

COMMENTED ON Rilo Kiley Break Up

I agree. And I actually quite liked that last album. It's still in rotation. I saw them at Stubb's last time they were in Austin and they were truly great. Sad.

I literally was going to start a riot if "Crazy In Love" wasn't number one. But, OF COURSE it had to be number one. It is, quite literally, one of my favorite songs of all time. I still remember the summer that song came out. And it's fresh every time.

"Since U Been Gone" is one of the few transcendental concert moments in my life. I saw her years ago at an amphitheater in Dallas. And when she closed with that song...damn. It blew that place up. For those three minutes or so, every single person there was on the same page. Amazing.

And you're right. She deserves so, so, so much more.

Uh. Did you even read this? A) It wasn't a review. B) It was actually quite pro-Beyonce. C'mon, now.
