What It Was: An R&B jam brilliantly produced by DJ Quik, who based the song off a Hindi song (Lata Mangeshkar’s “Thoda Resham Lagta Hai”) he heard on his TV one morning, and featuring legendary MC Rakim rapping on his first Top 40 hit in 13 years.

What Happened Next: Unfortunately, singer Truth Hurts (real name: Share Watson) was overshadowed on the track by the stunning sample and scene-stealing Rakim verse, a trend that continued with Watson’s R. Kelly-featuring second single “The Truth,” released shortly after allegations of Kelly’s sex crimes surfaced.

Where Are They Now?: Watson released a new single “Smoke” in 2010, her first in over a half-decade, and has been collaborating with ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante on some of his upcoming solo work.
