#17 Blu Cantrell, “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” (2001)
What It Was: A hit-him-where-it-hurts anthem for scorned women, urging them to seek revenge on their cheating men via his checking account.
What Happened Next: Peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, Blu earned two Grammy Award nominations for the song, for Best Female R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. Second album Bittersweet featured collaborations with Sean Paul, Fat Joe and Lil Kim, but saw more success internationally than at home in the United States.
Where Are They Now: Blu parlayed her notoriety from “Oops” into an appearance on the forgotten reality series Celebrity Circus in 2008. She’s hinted at releasing new material on Twitter, with the potential for an album as early as 2013. No word if the new stuff will find as great a use for the word “buckwild” as her biggest hit did.
