Cherilyn Sarkisian turns 67 today. Not sure who that is? Take out ever letter of her name but the all-important first four. There ya go.

Cher’s time in the biz spans a whopping five decades. Sonny & Cher, her folk rock duo with husband Sonny Bono, churned out hit after hit (“Baby Don’t Go,” “I Got You Babe”) and primetime special after primetime special. As a solo artist, the unique contralto made a name for herself with such hits as “If I Could Turn Back Time.” “Believe” is considered largely responsible for the growth of autotune (known occasionally as “The Cher Effect”). To top it all off, she was also a movie star and a trendsetting fashionista. Woof!

Nowadays, arguably her biggest imprint on the world is her Twitter. It is a seriously odd Twitter. With no discernible pattern for capitalization or punctuation choices, Cher daily posts the most unintentionally perplexing musings. Here is a small sampling, from her last month as a 66-year-old.

In the end, nine was greater than five.

That’s the lesson we learned from the finals of our tournament to decide Today’s Greatest Girl Group, as the Divine Nine of Girls Generation triumphed over the adorably quirky X Factor quintet Fifth Harmony in one of the fiercest face-offs this site has ever seen. (Both groups pulled in over six million votes each!)

The tourney win comes at a good time for Girls Generation, as the group is prepping for its English-language debut. Can they make it in America? Judging by the reviews of their most recent single, “I Got A Boy,” the odds look good! Here’s how the top US media raved about the song:

How did it take this long for the Billboard Music Awards to give Prince their version of a lifetime achievement award? Regardless, we’re glad they did, as it gave The Artist an opportunity to emerge from whatever purple pleasure palace he calls home and grace the stage with his presence.

To close out the awards, Prince chose to bring the rock to a telecast that had been sorely missing it. (The Band Perry was the closest we got to rock and roll all night.) Rocking his greatest Hendrix-by-way-of-Lenny-Kravitz afro, Prince brought out the guitar to perform a slowed-down—but still raucous—version of “Let’s Go Crazy.” What it lacked in the insanity of the original (the spoken-word intro was gone entirely) it made up for in a good old-fashioned ’70s stomp. The snippet of new song “Fix Your Life Up” was the perfect length, too: enough to make us want to hear more, short enough that we weren’t checking our watches until we got back to the hits.

One sad note though: Maybe it was the lighting or maybe it was the makeup, but for the first time in memory, Prince’s 55 years were plainly evident on his face. Disappointing to learn he’s human after all.

Despite being a relatively innocent song–and forgiveness can be extended if you don’t remember “High School,” one of the tracks off Roman Reloaded‘s Re-Up reissue–you’d be a little foolish to think a Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne performance could ever be entirely PG. It’s family-friendly enough while it’s just Nicki out there–though her super-tight shorts certainly don’t leave much to the imagination–but once Weezy F. Baby gets on stage, all bets are off. As if his fairly explicit guest verse wasn’t boundary-stretching enough (“Too hot to put my tongue in…so wet I’mma need googles”–guess as long as you don’t actually say the word “pussy,” it’s OK for primetime), then Nicki kicks it 2011 style with a private lapdance for her employer, with a whole lot of booty popping. “All that ass,” explains Wayne after the dance/performance, pointing to Nicki’s rump. Good to know.

Oh, the song. Whatever. When was the last time you listened to The Re-Up, anyway?

Why does Will.i.am want to be a robot so badly? We’re not sure, but since the aesthetic’s taken him this far he’s not about to abandon it now. Will’s Billboard Awards performance of “#thatPower” was the latest in a long ling of futuristic stints from the former Black Eyed Pea, only this time he managed to wrangle young Justin Bieber into this scheme too. The shtick was not improved by the injection of youth; Will and his army of dancing Mortal Kombat villains did a techno shuffle, Bieber fought battle against the mixing board, and all we could think of was exactly how much “#thatPower” borrows from Daft Punk.

As game as Christina Aguilera (as well as the dude from A-Ha) was for their performance with Pitbull on the earlier “Feel This Moment,” it’s clear that Jennifer Lopez is more Mr. Worldwide’s equal when it comes to impossibly energetic, borderline-frenetic live performances. J. Lo was better dressed for the occasion as well, wearing a Jennifer Beals-esque red one-piece thing with super-furry sleeves for some reason. Remarkably, the impractical get up did not prevent her from doing all sorts of acrobatics up and down the stage, flopping around her bangs and just generally being a big red blur up there. Song’s not bad, either–definitely of a piece with several dozen other pop hits of the last three years, but easily her most fun single since “On the Floor,” regardless.

Oh, and Pitbull held it down, natch. Dude’s a pro’s pro.

Consider Miguel’s Billboard Music Awards performance the Hollywood establishment’s official apology for the way the singer was treated at the Grammy’s, during which he was forced to play second fiddle to Wiz Khalifa on his own song. Miguel got a slot all to himself Sunday night, and the show’s producers clearly let him do whatever he wanted.

In this rendition of “Adorn,” Miguel abandoned the song’s traditional verse/chorus structure for a series of extended ad-libs, crooning over the beat and adding some screwy stops and starts to boot. In a lesser vocalist, this might be annoying, but Miguel is on a whole ‘nother level, so he can do no wrong as far as we’re concerned. He also went all-out with the dance moves, which is always a treat. Maybe less of a treat for the woman he landed on, though:

A typically energetic performance from Pitbull–you couldn’t have an award show these days without inviting Mr. 305, and we pity the poor coordinator who even tries–and Christina, looking better than she has on stage in some time. Not a ton to differentiate it from Pitbull’s other dozens of award-show performances of “I Know You Want Me,” “Give Me Everything,” “International Love” and countless others over recent years, but the crowd certainly seemed to be feeling it–there probably won’t be another performance all night that has more audience members goofily singing along into the camera, anyway.

Oh yeah, there was one super-cool thing–Pit and Christina acknowledged the inspiration behind the irrepressible “Feel This Moment” hook by actually dusting off Morten Harket, late of synth-pop group A-ha, to sing once through the chorus of “Take on Me,” which had people in the audience going nearly as wild. (If there’s not a gif of LMFAO’s rapturous reaction by night’s end, we’ll be very disappointed in the internet.) See you again in another 28 years, Morten.
