Systems Engineer

Popdust is looking for a systems engineer to join us as we build the internet’s best pop music experience and roll out exciting new features. As we build our next generation of social, publishing and commerce features, you will be the glue at the center of it. You’ll be hungry and you’ll own projects from the start, including building the most reliable, scalable, and high performance architecture possible to support our next-generation platform.

You’ll be more than our resident hacker – you’ll be our partner on building exciting, unique features for our growing site. Most importantly, you’ll play a central part in shaping our future.

Requirements:

  • Desire to be a key team member on a “build fast, ship often,” high profile social-publishing project of national scope
  • Minimum 3+ years experience building and maintaining system architectures for high traffic/high availability sites
  • Familiarity with network security techniques, hardware/software firewalls, etc.
  • Ability to optimize the Linux environment for the applications running on the server
  • Ability to install and maintain any server software package and learn about the ones you’re not familiar with
  • Experience with Nagios or a similar monitoring tool to maintain site reliability and growth so we know when to optimize and when to scale
  • Willingness to be on 24×7 call when required

Big Plus:

  • Experience with MongoDB, Hadoop, or other NoSQL databases
  • Experience with Apache Solr

Software Engineers

Popdust is looking for talented software engineers to join us as we build the internet’s best pop music experience and roll out exciting new features. As experienced, creative developers, you’ll help build and maintain our website and mobile applications, and work alongside dedicated and enthusiastic team members with stellar backgrounds. You’ll be hungry and you’ll own projects from the start, including the development and launch of our user rewards and commerce-driven components.

You’ll be more than our resident hackers – you’ll be our partners in building exciting, unique features for our growing site. Most importantly, you’ll play a central part in shaping our future.

Requirements:

  • Desire to be a key team member on a “build fast, ship often,” high profile social-publishing project of national scope
  • Minimum 2+ years experience building scalable web applications on the LAMP stack
  • Integration with web services and third party APIs, parsing XML in PHP and jQuery etc.
  • Familiarity with source/version control systems like git
  • Comfort with Agile development practices (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines and changing needs
  • Detail-oriented, fast, enthusiastic, and creative

Big Plus:

  • Experience working with high traffic/high availability site deployments
  • Strong HTML/CSS/JavaScript skills
  • Experience with MongoDB, Hadoop, or other NoSQL databases

Senior Web Designer

Popdust is looking for a web designer to join us as we build the internet’s best pop music experience and roll out exciting new features. You’ll work alongside a smart and dedicated team of writers and engineers to create new features for the current site and also design the next generation of Popdust.com.

Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience designing content-based websites. You should be comfortable working from wireframes and creating layered design templates in a tool like Photoshops. The ability to code standards compliant HTML/CSS from your designs is a huge plus, but you should at least understand how a site is coded and what is feasible from a design standpoint. Experience in designing ad units, Flash, HTML emails or mobile apps are also big plusses for us.

Requirements:

  • Expert proficiency with Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Comprehensive understanding of cross-platform browser capabilities
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in design
  • Knowledge of interactive design concepts, wireframes and user flow diagrams
  • Knowledge of typographical, print, motion graphic, and interaction design skills
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines and changing needs
  • Be both detail-oriented and fast

Additional Skills:

  • Advanced level HTML knowledge (2-3 years)
  • Advanced level CSS knowledge (2-3 years)
  • Proficiency in Flash
  • Ability to program advanced design features in JavaScript, using libraries such as jQuery
  • Knowledge of rich media advertising
  • Previous experience working with an online social platform or e-commerce platform
