I was welcomed to my 40s by four kids, 40% gray hair, and a 40% debt to credit ratio. How is a girl supposed to prioritize? As 40-year-olds know, it’s vital to look fresh and tame those pesky grays while still having enough in the bank for Margarita Mondays. I’ve been a long-time salon frequenter and had always cringed at drugstore DIY dyes. But I can’t afford to go to the salon every time my grays start to show. So I turned to those dreaded box dyes. Instead of Burnt Sienna my hair just ended up Burnt. There had to be a better solution.
I discovered eSalon a few months ago after Allure awarded them Best Home Hair Color (turns out, for the second year in a row). I was so excited and read more about them. I found write-ups in InStyle, Cosmopolitan, and rave user reviews. eSalon is a service that brings the professional colorists to you. Apparently, they custom blend your ideal hair color based on your current color, type, and hair care needs and then ship it right to your door. You just choose from one of the infinite eSalon swatches, and you’re all set. The results are just as good as going to a real-live salon.
Yeah, right. I had to try it. It seemed too easy. When I visited eSalon's site, I was guided through a questionnaire to create my personal hair profile. I selected hair type, natural color, current color, treatments, desired color and dye preference. Then, one of eSalon’s professional colorists personally mixed the color formulation and created a regimen to help me at home. Hair homework!
My eSalon hair color kit came with a salon-grade hair color and volume developer, small packets of shampoo and conditioner, two pairs of non-latex gloves, stain guard, stain remover and an applicator brush. Each bottle even came labeled with my name on it—a very sweet touch. The professional applicator brush helped me to apply my color way better than I could have with dreadful box dyes, and my color was right on. Plus, the treatment left my hair feeling soft and made it look shiny and vibrant. No box color could ever do that for me.
I’ve been using eSalon for my past three color applications, and I’ve been having great hair days for months. I’m thrilled with eSalon’s color and service, and I’m impressed that I can shamelessly color my own hair. I felt confident I could easily access their team of colorists for guidance or to make tweaks to my next color. I also found out that if I ended up with a different color than expected, they’d just blend me up a new color or give me a full refund.
I’ll still treat myself to the salon every now and then, but for now, goodbye grays. Rest in peace, box dyes. Bring it on, 40s!
