The Popdust Files: 2ne1, girls' generation, K-pop

2NE1 started off promotions for their new album Crush earlier this month with their All Or Nothing world tour, but the girls finally made the move from the tour stage to the small screen last night with the first televised performance of their latest single “Come Back Home” on music program Inkigayo.

As expected, Inkigayo didn’t skimp when it came to 2NE1′s big TV comeback, building a completely elaborate stage with moving parts, built-in screens, and stuttering laser lights. It helped compensate for the surprising lack of choreography (even by 2NE1′s standards), with the group opting to skip virtually all dancing in favour of their signature posturing.

They certainly looked confident and in charge though, making their performances the complete opposite of Girls’ Generation’s recent “Mr.Mr.” stages. While Girls’ Generation have been putting on choreographed dance routines that run rings around 2NE1′s stomping and shoulder blocking, they’ve noticeably lacked confidence and polish, giving off the impression that they’re ill-prepared and needed more time to practice.

Both Girls’ Generation and 2NE1 have lacked certain things from their comeback performances, but even with a few flaws they’re still pretty amazing overall.
