The Popdust Files: girls' generation, K-pop

Other than PSY, you don’t often see a K-pop act ranking high on American iTunes, but superstar girl group Girls’ Generation are proving to be an exception to the rule. Their new EP, the 6-track Mr.Mr., shot to No. 5 on the iTunes Albums chart within hours of its release, surpassing the likes of Beyonce and Lorde with ease.

Although it probably won’t hold the position for long without any official American promo to sustain sales, it’s still an impressive feat and a true testament to the group’s global fanbase.

It’s an even sweeter victory considering all the problems that have marred the album for the past couple of weeks. Initially, the “Mr.Mr.” music video was corrupted during the editing process and had to be re-shot, forcing the group to delay their return to an undetermined date, before the album later unexpectedly leaked online after being released to iTunes early by accident, forcing the group to rush release the project despite not having a proper promo schedule in place.

Anyway, take a listen to Mr.Mr.‘s blistering title track below, and head on over to iTunes now to purchase it!
