Rihanna Gets Naked (Emotionally!) in the New “Stay” Music Video

When you hear a new Rihanna video is “naked” and “raw,” there’s probably only one direction your mind goes from there. But in the case of Rih’s new video for “Stay,” you would be wrong! Or, half-wrong, at least. Rihanna does show a lot of skin in the video, but it’s all in the service of an intense emotional intimacy. Shot in one take, and often in extreme close-up, the clip finds Rihanna breaking down in the middle of a milky bathtub, as the camera lingers on her face, her neck, her ears. (There isn’t even any lip-syncing until the very end.) For a performer who’s often accused of being a cipher, it’s a bit of a revelation that Rihanna can hold the screen like this with just a stare and some tears.
