According to the official inauguration schedule, Beyoncé is scheduled to sing the national anthem as a prelude to Barack Obama’s ceremonial swearing-in at exactly 12:34 p.m. ET. (Synchronize your watches! Or your phone clocks, or whatever you use to keep time these days.) She posted a shot of her looking over the sheet music to her Tumblr, but perhaps more revealing than the fact that her version’s in the key of E is the audio that Popjustice found of her rehearsing for her big performance. It’s recorded from farrrrrr away, but pipes like Beyoncé’s work just as well from a distance as they do close up!
Compare and contrast with her performance of the anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII, which seems like it’s from another lifetime but which only took place nine years ago:
