The rumors are true: One Direction really did jet over to Ghana this past weekend as part of a charity effort. To help you make sense of this confusing story, we’re here to answer your questions.

Why did One Direction go to Ghana in the first place?
The boys were there as part of a meet-and-greet with Ghanaians who receive aid from Britain through the Comic Relief charity. Footage of the visit will be broadcast on Red Nose Day.

I know what all those words mean, but still I am confused.
Comic Relief is a charity founded by British entertainers Richard Curtis (the Love Actually guy) and Lenny Henry (the … forget it). Its signature fundraising event is Red Nose Day, a biannual telethon where celebrities act very silly and everyone who donates gets to wear a red foam nose. It is something of a holiday in Britain, as all viewers of the UK Office will remember.

So One Direction will be on a telethon, and only British people will get to see it?
It’ll probably end up on YouTube, but yes. Every year Red Nose Day is accompanied by an official charity single and this time 1D got the nod; they’ll be releasing a cover of Blondie’s “One Day of Another” for the occasion.

That song sounds very menacing for a charity single.
We agree! But it’s One Direction, so it will probably sell a million copies, which means more aid. Not really a bad thing.

True! Does this officially mean that One Direction are better people than the Wanted?
Nope. The Wanted released the official Comic Relief charity single two years ago:

What did people think of the trip?
They loved it. Harry Styles wrote on Twitter, “Today was the most amazing day I’ve had so far… In my life ever….@rednoseday Thank you so much for having us,” while Niall marveled, “I’ve seen the slums right in front of me! This is no joke! They really need your help! Poverty is real.”

No, I mean, Ghanaian people.
