Songwriting can be a nifty entry-level profession for the aspiring pop star, but that doesn’t mean it’s always an especially lucrative one. Case in point, Ke$ha’s paycheck for writing Miley’s Cyrus’ “The Time of Our Lives,” which the singer tells Seventeen barely would have covered a vending-machine run:

“It was like $1.63 cents for a song I wrote—I think for Miley Cyrus. It was an embarrassingly tiny amount. But I never cashed it and it’s on a bulletin board in my house.”

In all fairness, the songwriting session was pre-”Party in the USA,” for a track that eventually ended up on an EP: It’s possible Cyrus’ camp just didn’t have a whole lot of cash to throw around back in those days. Still, though, that’s a comically small amount. What can you purchase with $1.63? Here’s a short list:
