The Popdust Files: Charity, miley cyrus, philanthropy, red, taylor swift

Her album may have been Red, but Taylor Swift spent the year putting nonprofits in the black: According to DoSomething.org, the country-pop star was the most charitable celebrity of the year.

We’ve examined Taylor’s philanthropy before as a way to peek inside her soul, but it’s worth running down her efforts again: a whopping $4 million given to the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, $600,000 donated for flood relief in Iowa and Tennessee, and countless more time and money spent for music education and anti-bullying initiatives. No wonder the Kennedys gave her an award even after she dumped their grandson.

Celeb number two on the DoSomething list might be a surprise: It’s Miley Cyrus, who apparently did more this year than chop her hair off and dress up as Bowser. Besides urging young people to vote, the Cyrus’d one promoted Save Spot! dog rescue, a Los Angeles nonprofit devoted to saving pups from the pound.

The list also honored celebs who weren’t blonde women in their early 20s: Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga and Pink all made the top 10.
