With “YOLO” basically reigning as the word of the year of 2012—despite what those Oxford losers would have you believe—you’d think it would have become public domain by now, a catchphrase belonging to everyone and yet to no one. Nope: Drake still wants the credit—or at the very least, the financial compensation. He shared a couple pics on his Instagram over the holiday weekend of some department store co-opts of his “Motto,” with the respective captions “Walgreens….you gotta either chill or cut the cheque” and “Macy’s…same goes for you.”
We’re not sure Drake is really owed that much money (or chilling) from either store, especially considering the phrase is only arguably his invention to begin with. (We’ve broken down the rich history of YOLO elsewhere already.) We do object to that Macy’s t-shirt, though, since really, there’s no actual connection between Peanuts and YOLO aisde from the fact that both are pretty cool things.
Gotta love that “—que” spelling of check from Drake, however. T-O-R-O-N-T-O represent.
