The Popdust Files: andre 3000, big boi, outkast

Yesterday, we had to shake our heads a little at Andre 3000 when we heard Big Boi’s revelation that his one-time partner-in-OutKastdom Andre 3000 was too busy making razor commercials and the like to reunite one of the greatest rap duos in hip-hop history. But now, it looks like maybe it really might just be an It’s Not You, It’s Me thing with ‘Dre, as his comments in a Rolling Stone interview make it sound like not only is the rapper not making music with his old crony, he might just straight-up not be making music anymore:

Things are kind of up in the air with me, and some days, I feel like yeah, I’ll do it. Some days, I feel like, I don’t. I don’t know the future of music right now. I have no idea what I do. I honestly don’t…I record and I write ideas. I think I’ll always do that, for some reason. But I don’t know if it will go to another artist or will it be my stuff or will it go to some movie? I don’t know. I just kind of keep creating and hopefully, it’ll fall into a slot.

Yikes. That doesn’t sound tremendously encouraging, does it? That sounds like Mr. 3000 is almost at Justin Timberlake-like levels of I’ll Make Music When I Feel Like It And Stop Fucking Asking Me. ‘Dre also explained a little about how increased exposure has caused him to lose some of the love:

I miss creating all the time and I miss going with blinders on and not thinking about anything…It’s such a sad thing because now, people judge everything that I do. Because I don’t do it much, they analyze every word and before, you could’ve had a shitty verse and people just forgot about it. So it’s different now.

Well. At least it’s not totally Gillette’s fault, then—we’d hate to have to boycott their fine razor brand on principle. And for what it’s worth, Big Boi might not have been all that serious about that stuff anyway:
