They’ve Finally Mashed Up “Live While We’re Young” and “Die Young”

We’re in the midst of a new Romantic movement in pop right now, with artists all across the musical landscape taking lyrical inspiration from Goethe’s immortal maxim, “Man lebt nur einmal!” Drake and Lil Wayne kicked the trend off by simply translating the phrase into English, while One Direction turned it into a slice of sugary teen optimism, and Ke$ha used it to explore her fascination with death. These “we gotta live now!” songs don’t really sound anything like each other, but their gleeful hedonism speaks to the pervasive influence of EDM on today’s pop just as much as the electro breakdown in “We Found Love” does.
The opening is ripe, then, for some enterprising DJ to come together and mash all these tracks together for a solid party jam in the same vein as last year’s “Tonight.” Until that time, though, we’ll have to content ourselves with Buzzfeed’s new mashup, which mixes together One Direction’s “Live While We’re Young” and Kes$ha’s “Die Young” to form a perfect storm of not caring about tomorrow. We could have used a little more of 1D for the verses, but he who is without turntables should not cast the first stone.
