Musicians—they love the little things! So much so that they simply cannot stop writing songs about them. Maybe because their ability to notice them proves how artistic and perceptive they are? Regardless, One Direction are the latest band to hop aboard the “Little Things” train, at least if this tweet from Louis Tomlinson is to be believed:

What will One Direction’s “Little Things” sound like? And what will those little things do? We looked at the band’s musical predecessors, to find out.

 

Song: “Little Things” by Good Charlotte

What do the little things do? Hang around, try to bring me down, just won’t go away, make me who I am today.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? It’s poppy enough, but also way too snide. Plus, 1D’s British accents might sound odd on the tough-guy spoken word parts.

 

Song: “Little Things” by Bush.

What do the little things do? Kill.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? Somehow, we can’t see the clean-cut boys of One Direction singing “I touch your mouth, my willy is food.”

What do the little things do? Mean so much to me, make me feel secure and put my soul at ease, matter to me.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? Probably not. R&B jams just aren’t in 1D’s wheelhouse.

 

Song: “Littlest Things,” by Lily Allen.

What do the little things do? Take me there, remind me of you.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? If the “Should I Stay or Should I Go” homage got them in trouble, what do you think the blatant jacking of “Karma Police” in this song will do?

What do the little things do? Embody love.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? This song skews about 10 years too old for the 1D boys.

What do the little things do? Take me over, drive me crazy.

Could the One Direction single be a cover of it? Sure! It’s light-hearted and romantic, with some sweet harmonies in the bridge. They’d have to up the tempo, though: One Direction doesn’t do syrupy.
