Oppa North American Style: Psy’s Next Single to Be in English

Let the cries of “Language traitor” rain down from the hilltops of South Korea. Psy, international sensation behind the ubiquitous pop sensation “Gangnam Style,” has started work on his new single—but it will not be sung in Korean. “The second single is going to be in English,” the 35-year-old singer confirmed to the BBC. Geez, he already conquered the U.S. without even pandering to our language—how unstoppable is he gonna be whilst adopting our native tongue?
Well, if you believe Psy himself, it might not be as easy as all that. The K-Pop megastar seems a little nervous about following up his megahit, showing self-awareness uncharacteristic of a dude of his stature:
The thing is, it’s too much pressure to overcome Gangnam Style. It’s really hard…The problem is my music video is more popular than I am. That’s a big problem for me right now, so I’ve got to overcome my music video first. That’s a big problem for me right now, so I’ve got to overcome my music video first.
Aww, Psy. I mean, you’re not wrong about any of that, but the fact that you’ve gotten this far and still can remain a little humble about your success probably puts you one step ahead of Rebecca Black and them, doesn’t it? We’re rooting for ya, man.
