The Popdust Files: G.O.O.D. Music, jay-z, kanye west

Expected to draw more than 40,000 fans (and be made into a documentary by Ron Howard), Jay-Z’s Made in America festival kicked off yesterday with a video introduction from President Obama (alas, not a presidential holgram) and a scheduled line-up including Skrillex, Passion Pit and Janelle Monae. But you didn’t think Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music family—whose Cruel Summer tracklist we just broke down into graf form—would be left out of this Ron-Howard-and-Barack-Obama-endorsed event, did you? Because they weren’t. Kanye and his G.O.O.D. pals Common, Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T surprised no one but pleased everyone by coming out for an appearance alongside Jay.

The crew took on their summer chart topper “Mercy,” along with “New God Flow” and “Cold.” ‘Ye and Jay made a fine duo, too, performing “N****s in Paris,” Jay in his requisite Brooklyn Nets gear and Kanye in G.O.O.D.-themed regalia. Both, of course, donned multiple chunky gold chains. (Watch video of the set here.)

The festival’s second day is already underway, with a performance by Jay’s newest protegé songstress Rita Ora done and sets from the likes of Odd Future and Run DMC coming up this evening. Does Jay have any other special guests up his sleeve? There are plenty more Watch The Throne tracks ‘Ye and Jay could  take on for tonight’s finale. And of course, Beyoncé is at the show. Bring Blue Ivy up on stage and this could be the trio’s first family affair. Stream the whole shebang here:
