The Popdust Files: movies, selena gomez, Spring Breakers

Selena Gomez has been speaking out about her desire for meatier acting roles, and the world has been anxious to see the former Barney star strip down in her upcoming project Spring Breakers as a result. Between bikini-clad promo photos and the presence of a creepy James Franco, we’ve held a strange fascination with Selena’s first film project since the cutesy, mistaken identity flick, Monte Carlo, particularly due to the fact it focuses on four college girls who rob a fast-food restaurant and end up paying for their actions through encounters with a drug dealer (Franco). Costarring Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine, it’s the first chance we have to catch Selena in some racier material, potentially shocking us all with NSFW dialogue and behavior that would never be endorsed by the Disney Channel.

The film is also directed by Harmony Korine, who wrote 1995′s Kids—a cult-classic which starred then unknowns Chloe Sevigny and Rosario Dawson—and could be the person capable of unleashing Selena’s true thespian prowess onto the scene—that is, if Justin Bieber is cool with it and all. Unfortunately, Franco and his cornrows are absent in the first 29-second clip, which is light on plot development and action, but does feature Selena delivering a harrowing monologue about how nothing happens in their mundane little lives—contrary to her own—and Vanessa Hudgens fires off invisible bullets from her fingertips.

Spring Breakers makes its debut at the Venice Film Festival later this month. Check out the clip below.
