The Popdust Files: Kendrick Lamar, lady gaga
After yesterday’s Twitter announcement from Lady Gaga that she would be appearing on a song from Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming album good kid, m.A.A.d city, we expected an official announcement with details to be forthcoming. Turns out, we shoulda just kept monitoring their Bluebird conversation, since they laid all of it out in time: The song’s name, the release date, even the city the song is about. Tweeted Stefani:
@kendricklamar and I are dropping the record SEPT 6. Its called “PARTYNAUSEOUS”— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) August 15, 2012
I wrote “PARTYNAUSEOUS” about Jakarta, and my relationship with that country. Wishing I could “get high with the enemy” and make peace.

Once
@kendricklamar + I started talking about life + his forward thinking views about love + hip hop, the song became something more.— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) August 15, 2012
September 6th, huh—why, that’s the very same day as the MTV Video Music Awards! Could it be that Gaga and Kendrick are planning on debuting the song at the VMAs? Well, that would mean that MTV still considered inviting Gaga to the ceremonies, with the risk of a repeat Jo Calderone performance, but it seems like too much of a coincidence to deny—who releases a song on a Thursday otherwise?
Also, not to get too High School Language Arts on Kendrick and Gaga, but the song should probably be called “Party Nauseated”—unless it’s about a party that makes all if its participants queasy, which is possible but unlikely. Just sayin’.
