The Popdust Files: Call Me Maybe, carly rae jepsen, overly attached girlfriend, parodies

Oh, girl. YouTube user wzr071 (who has taken on the internet moniker of Overly Attached Girlfriend, possibly by her own doing) first made headlines on our website with her pitch-perfect femme-stalker reading of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” (as in, “If I was your girlfriend / I’d never let you leave / Without a small recording device / Taped under your sleeve…”), combined with a natural bug-eyed expression that they certainly don’t teach in acting school (unless you’re a Facial Expressions major, anyway). It was awesome, but we figured we’d probably never hear from her again.

Needless to say, we were mistaken. Like any good creepy ex stalker, Overly Attached Girlfriend keeps popping up, now covering Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” with the same kind of first-person Fatal Attraction narrative as her Bieber cover. (Chorus: “Hey I just saw you / With that lady / Paid for her dinner / That’s kinda shady…”) It doesn’t have the shock of the news that her “Girlfriend” did, but it does have some absolutely indelible moments, the best of which is probably when before the final chorus, she sings along to the sound of the sweeping strings—the two-second clip of which has already gotten its own YouTube video, appropriately entitled “Overly Attached Girlfriend Neighs.”
