There’s something inherently self-congratulatory about a huge, big-budget digital short to celebrate having done 100 digital shorts, right? It’s like throwing a big party for yourself. It’s like giving yourself a whole lot of enjoyment. To use the crude metaphor we’re inching toward, it’s like–well, it’s like doing something fictional Justin Bieber would really not like to hear about, no matter how loud the fanfares, how nostalgic the clip show and how convincing the antics Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell get up to. After all, in a sketch like this, somebody’s got to play the prude. Sorry, Bieber. At the rate the music industry goes, in five years you’ll have your own protege.
