The Popdust Files: adam yauch, Beastie Boys, coldplay, concerts, covers, fight for your right, tributes

It’s not the first time Coldplay have covered “Fight For Your Right,” or even the first time they did so in tribute to Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. They did so at the All Points West festival in 2009, when Yauch was first diagnosed with cancer and had to pull out of their headlining gig at the festival. But of course, now the cover takes on even more weight—odd to say about a rendition of one of the most purposefully stoopid songs ever written—with Yauch’s tragic passing, and it was an emotional performance for Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl in California, during which singer Chris Martin shouted out “ADAM YAUCH!!” and ended the third verse with “So we’re sending all our love to the Beastie Boys!”

If you missed it the first time around at APW—or if you just love Coldplay and the Beastie Boys enough to experience it a second time—you gotta give it a watch. It’s a full-band performance this time, rather than just the Martin solo, and it’s really a surprisingly moving cover.
