Taylor Swift is the One Olivia Newton-John Wants

Olivia Newton-John appeared on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight to discuss surviving breast cancer, the release of her new cookbook and acknowledge one of the biggest pop stars on the planet (for SEO purposes). While she came ready to share a boatload of information, those who know Newton-John solely from her appearance on Glee will probably be most interested in hearing her feelings on the possibility of a Grease reboot. They’ve done it with Footloose and Dirty Dancing; finding the next Danny Zuko is probably every casting director’s dream. “I’m sure they’ll try [a remake], and I think it would probably do well because people would be curious,” she explained, later going on to say an updated version would be “great.” As to who will be inheriting the necessary hair-teasing tools and a certain pair of black hot pants: “Lately, I’ve thought Taylor Swift could probably [play Sandy], because she’s very talented. And my daughter, I’ve always thought she could.” So it’s nepotism versus the power to sell 20 million albums? Careful, Chloe Rose. Nobody likes going against Taylor.
The world really wants to make Taylor Swift a movie star. Because Hollywood seems to be void of new material, or at least in favor of empty remakes and big-budget adaptations of video games, it’s not ridiculous to assume a Grease reboot is on its way. Taylor certainly has the naivete of a pre-drive-in Sandra Dee, but can she conjure the sass needed needed to pull off “You’re The One That I Want”? We always saw her as more of a Patty Simcox. Alas, this is still better than Eponine or Joni Mitchell.
